Zinc is vital for about 200 functions in the body – down to the very core structure of our cells. Zinc is integral to the synthesis of RNA and DNA, the genetic material that controls cell growth, division and function. Associated with various proteins, enzymes, hormones and prostaglandins, zinc contributes to a host of processes, including bone development and growth, cell respiration, co-factor for enzymes (over 200) in digestion, energy metabolism etc, wound healing, liver’s ability to remove toxic substances such as alcohol from the body, immune function, regulation of heart rate and blood pressure, fertility – male and female. Zinc supplementation is more effective when in combination with Vitamin A, Calcium and Copper. Good natural sources of Zinc include lean meat, oysters and other seafoods, eggs, soybeans, peanuts, wheat bran, cheese, pumpkin & other seeds, bone meal, brewer’s yeast.
